Jennifer I. DeBurro, M.Ed., Ed.D.
Location
With more than two decades of experience in higher education, Jennifer DeBurro serves as vice president of Student Affairs and dean of students at the University of New England. Since joining UNE in 2005, DeBurro has held various leadership roles within the Division of Student Affairs, culminating in her appointment to her current appointment in 2021.
In her role, she oversees critical student-centered units, including Campus Center Operations and Outdoor Recreation, Counseling Center, Graduate and Professional Student Affairs, Housing and Residential/Commuter Life, Student Access, Student Engagement, and Student Resolutions.
Before UNE, DeBurro worked for two other higher-education institutions in various positions in community volunteer services, residence life, student activities, and service learning. DeBurro has served on the national board as the region I director of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, an organization of student affairs professionals in higher education. She has also served as the organization’s national volunteer coordinator and co-director of the Maine Association of Student Personnel Administrators.
DeBurro has been invited to present at regional and national conferences, participate in panel discussions, and mentor emerging professionals in student affairs. Her expertise has been recognized in prominent publications such as the Chronicle of Higher Education and Inside Higher Education, and her work has been featured by the Education Advisory Board.
As a first-generation college student herself, DeBurro is committed to creating an environment that empowers students to excel academically and personally, while ensuring individualized and comprehensive support and resources for students facing challenges.
She earned a bachelor’s in sociology from Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts, an M.Ed. from Suffolk University in Boston, and an Ed.D. from the University of New England.
